Contrition - It is defined explicitly by the Council of Trent as "a sorrow of soul and a hatred of sin committed, with a firm purpose of not sinning in the future". (www.newadvent.org).
-
Consent: We let go of our barriers of resistance and willingly say: “Do with me as you will.” for one realizes that God alone can change us.
Alteration – This is when we begin to accept God as our self and our life. God changes us, slowly but surely, by moving us internally. You begin recognizing when it is the presence of God that moves you or that which is not of God. You become more conscious of the internal shifts within you and around you to know when it is God at work or when evil is at work.
Areas of Repentance:
Our creation:
who we have created our self to be
What we have created our life to be
what we have done in shaping the character and lives of other people and the world in general.
-
Our offenses against God
Persecution of God in our ignorance and insolence
Abomination of God's teachings
Sacrilegious use of holy/sacred items
Associating holiness or miracles with unholy things
Just as He has forgiven so easily and so freely, so are we asked to forgive everything and everyone, whom we felt did us wrong (intentionally or unintentionally).
